Biofiltration

Purification of air from processing or biooxidation of organic substances, by means of a filtration system containing micro-organisms capable of breaking down pollutants and using them as a source of nutrition.

Contaminated air is first prefiltered to eliminate dust and grease that could block the pores of the biofilter; the prefiltered air then undergoes a humidifying process such as will raise the temperature to a level at which the micro-organisms can survive internally of the filter. Volatile organic compounds are converted to carbon dioxide biologically.
